Journal 11

How do you think this quote connects to Achebe's decision to present these two drastically different missionaries?
What purpose do they serve in the story?
What purpose do these two perspectives serve in the broader historical context of colonialism?

This quote connects to the decision to present the two different missionaries because each of them have only heard a little about one another and only know their one story.
  • One person may have a huge impact
  • Two different stories
    • Its not all the same
  • Shows two sides of the church
  • Brown-patience vs. Smith - no patience
These two perspectives have many purposes in the broader historical context of colonialism. They are colonizing with each other.
